My client should not be subjected to interrogation about her personal grooming choices. She is entitled to privacy, and her decision to wear a wig is a matter of personal convenience and style. The audacity of these coworkers to pry into her personal life is frankly appalling. She shouldn't have to educate ignorant people about black hair.
Please! This is a blatant attempt to stir up racial animosity where none exists. It's a simple question about hair, not an inquisition. If she's so worried about 'ignorance,' why not use it as an opportunity to educate instead of playing the victim? She should stop acting like everyone is out to get her and realize that sometimes, people are just curious.
The plaintiff's sensitivity is understandable, given the historical context and racial dynamics at play. However, the coworker's inquiry, while perhaps insensitive, does not constitute harassment. The plaintiff also bears some responsibility for not clearly communicating her boundaries. It is a workplace, not a personal therapy session.
